Doctor Denys was raised in Orem, Utah. He is married and has three children. He has an interest in art and has created many illustrations as a medical illustrator. He has won awards in oil painting, and has an interest in figurative stone sculpture. Art pages may be found at www.douglasdenysmd.com. He is the son of Frederick Denys, a well-known western landscape artist. He is an endurance athlete and has run many marathons, 100 mile ultra-marathons, Ironman triathlon, and raced for Team USA at the world championships in long course triathlon. His experience as a patient with congenital heart disease motivated him to pursue medicine as a career and is a driving force behind his interest in providing humanitarian aid. His personal story is told in the non-fiction narrative, Rhythm of a Runner, published in 2014 and is available at Amazon or at (www.rhythmofarunner.com). Proceeds are used to help children with congenital heart disease.
